Rome has two airports, Fiumicino and Ciampino. Both are not directly in Rome. That’s why you need to take public transport from the airport to the city to get to your hotel or accommodation. Airport transfer to Rome: How do I get from the airport to the city center in Rome?

There are several ways to get from the airport Fiumicino and Ciampino to the city center in Rome which I have listed in detail below:

Airport transfer from Fiumicino to the city center in Rome

The airport Fiumicino is the bigger of Rome’s two airports. It is about 34 km to the West, directly at the Mediterranean Sea. The code of the airport is FCO. Airlines such as Alitalia (terminal 1 and 3), Lufthansa (terminal 3), EasyJet (terminal 3) and other international airline companies fly to this airport several times a day.

1. Airport transfer from Fiumicino to Rome with a private chauffeur

There are private shuttle companies that take you from Fiumicino to Rome. One of them is Blacklane which offers a private airport transfer from Fiumicino to the city center in Rome. You can find more information on their website: www.blacklane.com or on getyourguide.

2. Airport transfer from Fiumicino to Rome via Leonardo Express

The Leonardo Express goes directly from Fiumicino airport to the train station Termini in central Rome. The ride without stops is exactly 32 minutes long. This is the fastest way to get from Fiumicino to the city center in Rome.

The train station Termini is a junction station to metro lines A and B. The Leonardo Express departs from platform 23 or 24. A single fare ticket costs 14 euro for adults. Children under 12 may ride for free in accompany of an adult. The Leonardo Express departs every 30 minutes from 6:23 am to 11:23 pm from Fiumicino to Termini in Rome, and from 5:35 am to 10:35 pm in the other direction.

Duration: about 32 minutes

Hours of operation: from 5:35 am to 10:35 pm from Termini to the airport; from 6:23 am to 11:23 pm from Fiumicino to Rome

3. Airport transfer from Fiumicino to Rome with the regional train FL1

The regional train FL1 also heads from Fiumicino to Rome. This local train is very convenient if you want to go to a train station other than Termini. For example, it stops at Roma Trastevere, Roma Ostiense, and Roma Tiburtina (you can change here for metro line B).

The regional train departs every 15 minutes from Fiumicino to Rome on weekdays, and every 30 minutes on weekends and holidays. The ride from the airport to Roma Tiburtina is about 48 minutes long. Adults pay 8 euro for a single ticket.

4. Airport transfer from Fiumicino to Rome by shuttle bus

The company AirportShuttle offers a direct shuttle service from Fiumicino to your hotel in Rome. There are two possibilities: You can take a shuttle bus with other passengers who want to go to the city center in Rome. The price is 13 euro on the website for the first 4 persons in your group. From the 5th person onwards, you only pay 5 euro per person. If you do not wish to wait for other passengers, you can also book a private shuttle bus. The price is about 45 euro for two persons from the airport to the hotel. Airport transfer from Ciampino to the city center in Rome

The airport Ciampino is about 15 km southeast of Rome and well connected to its city center. Due to the small size of the runways, there are only short and medium-range airplanes that use this airport. These are mostly low-cost airlines such as Ryanair and Wizzair.

1. Airport transfer from Ciampino to Rome by train

The Ciampino airport does not have its own train station. However, it offers shuttle busses that connect you to the next train station in the city of Ciampino. The bus ride takes about 5 minutes and costs 1,20 euro. Look out for bus line COTRAL. You can buy a ticket at the airport or on the bus. Once you arrive at the train station in Ciampino you can take the local train FL4 which stops at Termini in Rome. The train ride is about 12 minutes long.

2. Airport transfer from Ciampino to Rome by metro

Another way to get from the airport Ciampino to Rome is the metro. First you have to take the COTRAL bus to the next metro station Anagnina which is the terminus of metro line 2. From here you can take the metro to your desired destination or change at Termini to line A. Especially during rush hours, this is the fastest way, but only in the direction to Rome!

The fee for the bus is 1,20 euro and 1,50 euro for a single ticket in the metro. If you have a metro card for Rome, you can use it at Anagnina.

3. Airport transfer from Ciampino to Rome by shuttle bus

The company AirportShuttle offers a shuttle service from Ciampino airport to your hotel. As described above, there are two options: You can either share a shuttle bus with other people or order your own private shuttle bus. The shared ride costs 13 euro on the website of AirportShuttle, which applies to the first 4 persons in your group. From the 5th person onwards, it’s only 5 euro per person. A private shuttle bus for two persons from the airport to the hotel is available for 45 euro.
