Overview of Rome passes: Which Rome pass is worth buying? To make your holidays in Rome smoother, you can buy a Rome pass for sightseeing and public transport. Nowadays there are several passes available. This article gives you an overview so that you can find the most suitable pass for you and your stay in Rome.

Rome pass: What does a Rome pass include?

As already mentioned, there are different Rome passes you can buy. However, all the passes listed here have one thing in common: They all include a multi-day ticket for the public transport in Rome (metro, buses and the tramway) as well as free entry to many museums and sights in Rome.

Just a little hint: All Rome passes offer the opportunity to visit the Colosseum, the Palatine Hill, and the Forum Romanum for free because these three sights belong together.

Another tip: If you want to see the Borghese Gallery in Rome, make an early booking! In order to use the free entry which is included in the Rome pass, you have to call directly and reserve the time of your visit in the Borghese Gallery in advance.

Rome pass: What passes are available?

1. Roma Pass

There are two versions of the Roma Pass: One is valid for 72 hours, the other one can be used for 48 hours. Most tourists who come to Rome choose the pass for 72 hours. That’s why the Roma Pass for 48 hours is not available everywhere in Rome.

The Roma Pass for 72 hours includes a metro card which is valid for all public transports for a duration of 72 hours. In addition, it offers free entry to the first two sights. For that reason it is best to use the Roma Pass for the most expensive attractions in Rome. At certain sights, the Roma Pass can be used to avoid long queues at the entrance. For all participating museums and monuments the Roma Pass offers a price reduction or free entry. It includes other discounts on selected exhibitions and events. The Roma Pass for 72 hours costs 38,50 euro.

The Roma Pass for 48 hours offers the same advantages like its bigger version. Only difference: the duration of validity. The metro card is valid for 48 hours and instead of two Roman sights or museums, you can only visit one sight for free. The price of the Roma Pass for 48 hours is 28 euro.

Please note: The visit in the Vatican, the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel is NOT included in the Roma Pass. Moreover, there are no discounts on the pass for children as most museums and sights are free of charge for children under 18 years!

The Roma Pass can be purchased at all participating tourist offices, museums and sights, in certain metro stations, and in advance on the internet.

2. OMNIA Vatican and Rome Card

The OMNIA Vatican and Rome Card offers free entry to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel in Rome. The visit in St. Peter’s Basilica is free for all visitors. • Solene HelpTourists says:

      Hi Tiago,

that’s right , with the Roma Pass 48 hours you’ll only have free access to one sight in Rom wich also include the colosseum, the Palatine Hill and the Forum Romanum (for the colloseum you have to check the availability first on the official website). With the Pass 72 hours you can visit 2 sights (also Castelo de Sant Angelo).
All passes offer the free use of the city’s public transport network.

      Kind regards,
      Solène

  2. Polona says:

Hi, I have seen that access to Arena floor in Colosseum is possible only with guided tour, so what I’m interested in is if there is some kind of option to get it within the Turbo pass?
And also I know this was asked but is it confirmed that you don’t wait in line for Colosseum (or what exactly is the difference between Skip the Line and Fast Track)?
    Thank you very much

    • Anne von HelpTourists says:

      Hi Polona,
They call it Fast track because you will still probably have to wait in line. You reserve tickets for a specific time slot. However you will not be the only one who has tickets for let’s say 3pm. Naturally, if 100 people arrive at 3pm, it will still take a few minutes for everyone to enter. However, you have priority entrance compared to visitors buying tickets on the spot.
If you are a Turbo Pass holder you still have to call the Colosseum to reserve a specific time slot. When doing so, you can ask about an additional ticket to attend a guided tour.
Kind regards, Denise and the HelpTourists Team.

  3. Aldona B. says:

With Rome City Pass by Turbopass could I get free entrance to Vatican museums and others in skip in line? Is it a transport free? Is a bus hop on and hop off included?

    • Anne von HelpTourists says:

      Hi Aldona,
indeed, with the Turbopass you have free skip-the-line entrance to the Vatican Museums, as well as fast-track entrance to the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine. A hop-on hop-off tour and a ticket for public transport are included as well.
Regards, Denise and the HelpTourists Team.

      • genevieve says:

        Hi Aldona,
As of March 31, 2019, it looks like the Turbo pass does not offer skip-the-line for the Coliseeum anymore. This “forces” you to get a paid guided tour. Do I have this right? Thank you

        • Anne von HelpTourists says:

          Hi Genevieve,
no, it simply means that they changed from skip the line to fast track. Fast track means that you will still enjoy free entrance and that you will get inside more quickly than visitors who buy tickets at the sight.
Kind regards, Denise and the HelpTourists Team.

  4. Beth M. says:

With the turbo pass, may I ride the hop on hop off all three days or just one day? I mean if I buy the three day pass. Thank you. Beth
